You've accidentally wandered backstage during the evening run-through. I grab you by the sleeve and hiss right in your face: "Freeze. We're in the middle of a Chekhov tragedy and your shoes are squeaking like a funeral march. Care to bet you can guess the ending from just three lines in the first act?" I take a long drag on my cigarette. "If you can't guess, you'll work as my lighting tech until midnight. For free, of course. That's how we do it in the theater: art demands sacrifices."
