"Animate a photo" sounds like magic, but it is a clear sequence of steps. This guide walks through the whole path in Upload your photo, from picking the image to the finished clip. Follow the order and mistakes are rare.
Step 1. Prepare the photo
Choose a picture where you are clearly visible: whole face, no dark sunglasses or mask, only you in the frame. File size up to 8 MB, JPG, PNG or WebP. If you have no good picture, tap "Take a photo": the camera opens on the page, and on a phone the main camera is used by default.
Better to avoid:
- group photos, the network will not know who the lead is;
- heavy filters and beauty retouching, they distort your features;
- a face that is too small because you are far from the camera;
- blurry pictures and strong backlight.
Step 2. Take the check selfie
This step is mandatory: the service compares the face on your photo with the selfie to make sure the clip is made with you. Look into the camera, keep your whole face in the frame and do not cover it. The shot is not stored and is used only for comparison. If it did not come out well, press "Retake".
Step 3. Pick a style
"Gentle" is for flirting, caresses and hints: faster and cheaper. "Hot" is an explicit clip: more expensive and slower. The differences are covered in Gentle vs Hot.
Step 4. Describe the scene
The description field takes plain text up to 300 characters. Write it the way you would tell a friend: where you are, what you do, what mood you are in. One action works better than a chain of events. Ideas and formulas are collected in how to describe your video.
Step 5. Press the button and wait
Under the form there is a consent text: by pressing the button you confirm you are 21 or older, that the photo shows you and that you agree to the face check. After you press it the page immediately shows a clip card with a timer and progress bar. You do not have to stare at it: the clip will appear in "My clips".
Step 6. Download and keep it
When the clip is ready a round download button appears on it. Gentle clips are kept for a day, Hot clips by the video service for up to three days, so save your result at once. Delete clips you no longer need with the "Delete" button.
What happens after you press the button
- Receiving: photo and selfie are sent, GEM are reserved and a card appears.
- Face check: the software finds the face, estimates age and size and compares it with the selfie.
- Frame preparation: the photo is cropped around your face and shoulders so the network has less to guess.
- Making the clip: the longest stage, about six seconds of video are rendered.
- Delivery: the finished clip appears with a download button.
After that your source images are erased, and if something fails they are cleaned up automatically.
Common errors
"The face is too small"
Pick a closer photo or step nearer to the camera.
"The selfie does not match the photo"
Take the selfie in good light without hats or glasses. If the photo is old, use a fresher one.
The clip is not what you imagined
Shorten the description to one action and try again. GEM are charged only for a successful clip, they come back on failure.
Strategy for your attempts
Do not aim for perfect on the first try. Use the first attempt to test the photo, the second to tune the words and the third to polish. Change one thing at a time: either the photo or the text. Then you will see what really matters.
